Preventive warning - Fiola storm

The Town of Gaspé is providing an update related to Fiona storm, which effects will be felt on the Gaspé territory starting tonight or early tomorrow morning. 40 to 50 mm of rain are expected between Saturday morning and Saturday evening. Northern winds from the will blow from 90 to 110 km/h over these sectors as of tonight.

Thus, we remind the citizens of the Town of Gaspé of the following informations, as a preventive measure:

  • At all times, each citizen remains responsible for its own safety. It is important to be self-sufficient (food, water, medicine, etc.) for at least 72 hours. For any material damage to your property, contact your insurance company. For any urgent situation that endangers your life or safety, call 9-1-1.

 

  • Citizens located in areas where waves can hit the coast must be particularly vigilant since the storm could cause strong winds and high waves on the eastern part of the Gulf of St. Lawrence and a high probability of storm surges for certain sectors;

 

  • If poles and/or electrical wires fall, it is important not to approach them and to contact 9-1-1 to report the situation;

 

  • Due to the expected strong winds, it is recommended to store any object that could be blown away by the wind and cause damage;

 

  • A surveillance of the territory will be provided from midnight by the fire department of the Town of Gaspé and will continue during the day of Saturday.
