UPDATE (4 p.m.) - Weather alert - Heavy rain and risk of flooding

Published on mardi 6 juin 2023 in 15:32

This alert is no longer valid.

The Town of Gaspé reminds citizens to be vigilant. The heavy rains of the last hours and those expected by Thursday could cause flash floods, accumulation of water on the roads and flooding in places. Our Public Works and Fire Protection Department teams monitor the infrastructures and waterways most at risk, including the Darmouth River, the Renard River and the Anse-au-Griffon River. We therefore remind people in areas at risk of flooding to be particularly attentive.

According to the latest forecasts, the peak of the floods is expected during the next night and overflows could last until Thursday. Weather patterns are changing rapidly and the situation is changing hour by hour. The floodplains of the Darmouth, Renard and Anse-au-Griffon rivers are particularly at risk. Without limitation, the following roads could be flooded and rendered impassable, which could temporarily isolate certain residences: Montée de Corte-Réal, Montée de Pointe-Navarre, Montée Rivière-Morris, Rue Forillon, Rue des Deux-Montagnes, Rue Gauthier , rue Bellefeuille, rue Noël, rue des Loisirs, route du Portage and rang St-Patrice, in addition to various sections of provincial roads 132, 197 and 198.

In an emergency, dial 9-1-1. Don't take unnecessary risks if you have any doubts about your safety. Do not venture on flooded roads.

Important: you must always have an emergency kit to meet your needs for 72 hours (water, food, medicine, etc.).

If the situation requires it, periodic updates will be made via our usual means of communication.

The City of Gaspé thanks you for your attention and asks you to be careful.
