Environmental Alert - Domestic Water Consumption
Published on jeudi 25 septembre 2025 in 14:30
The Town of Gaspé, like several other municipalities in the Gaspésie region, has not received the usual amount of rainfall since the beginning of summer 2025. Our public works teams are conducting daily monitoring of our wells and drinking water facilities. Since the beginning of the summer, the critical thresholds of our 3 wells that supply downtown Gaspé have not been reached. That said, several residences, located throughout the territory, have seen their individual wells run out of water.
Although the situation is not critical for the drinking water systems in downtown Gaspé and Rivière-au-Renard, water levels have nevertheless decreased compared to years with higher rainfall. Furthermore, with the approach of the winter season and the low precipitation forecasted for the coming days and weeks, we are asking the entire population of the territory to limit their water consumption as much as possible to allow the aquifer to regenerate as much as possible before the winter season.
The Town of Gaspé will also make efforts to limit its own water consumption for the work planned this fall and will ensure that it obtains water from non-potable sources for the necessary watering work. It will also encourage contractors who require water to do the same.
The Town of Gaspé thanks you for your cooperation.
