OBSTRUCTION ON THE JACQUES-CARTIER PROMENADE IN DOWNTOWN GASPÉ

Published on friday 14 august 2026 in 14:28

The Town of Gaspé informs residents that, following a notice issued by the Ministère des Transports et de la Mobilité durable (MTMD), a short section of the Jacques-Cartier Promenade in the downtown area will be closed as a precautionary measure. The closure is located at the footbridge between the intersection of Boulevard Gaspé and Rue Chrétien and the entrance to the Musée de la Gaspésie.

This closure is necessary because upcoming work will be carried out on infrastructure belonging to the MTMD. A stormwater outfall located between the promenade and Boulevard Gaspé must be stabilized due to accelerated erosion in the area. MTMD engineers have recommended that the Town close access to the section at the bottom of the outfall until the ministry's work has been completed.

The promenade remains open on the sections on either side of this short closure. According to information provided by the MTMD, stabilization work could begin in the coming weeks. Once the work is completed, the footbridge closure will be lifted.

The Town of Gaspé thanks residents for their cooperation and will continue to monitor the situation with the MTMD.
